Kansas City has a pretty important sales tax hike vote (bi-state, I am guessing) coming up soon. Not only will they get a Super Bowl if it passes, but MLB just announced that they will get an All-Star game too.
I haven’t followed the sales tax proposal at all, but I feel like passing it is a bad idea (remember, I don’t know what I am talking about). I really liked the idea from a year or two ago of having a downtown ballpark. I like Kauffman Stadium, but overlooking I-70, isn’t quite as cool as being downtown.
If I have to guess, I think it will pass. Only because of the Super Bowl, though. I don’t think that anyone really cares about the All-Star game. If they could figure out someway to tie-in the Speeday, maybe get another big NASCAR race, then it would pass for sure.

I am in New York for a quick trip and got to play with the company basketball team in their Wednesday night league at BasketBall City.
First, BasketBall City is awesome. It’s this huge domed building that sits out over the water at the Chelsea Piers. Tons of basketball. We played on the top level and there were five other games going on at the same time all in a row. The refs let you play, they don’t call a lot of fouls and the scorekeeper tracks individual points and team rebounds (we out-rebounded the other team 52-20).
Fresh off our two game winning streak in Eugene, Pat, Dave and I accounted for nearly half the team’s points and outscored our opponent 32-25. That’s just Pat, Dave and I. The final score was 69-25.
I see that BasketBall City is in a few other cities, hopefully they will come to Eugene soon.

My old gunnerweb landing page didn’t survive the move to the new host. For the past few weeks it was some generic “Site coming soon” page. The wait is now over for the new gunnerweb.net. I even had some time to throw together a cool little ajax contact page (the ajax is cool, not exactly the form layout). Please give it a try, it will be time well spent

The Eightfivethree Classic isn’t going so well. After the first weekend, I am in last place. I still have all four of my Final Four teams in it and if Duke wins, I think I will win.

Scott (aka Sammy182) now has a blog. I can’t guarantee that it will stay at this address, but it currently at http://gunnerweb.net/scott/. I’ll be seeing him Friday, so expect some updates then.

Happy Selection Sunday. March Madness starts in a few days, which means it is time, once again, for The Eightfivethree Classic. By my count, this is the Third Annual Eightfivethree Classic (2004, 2005) and I think it is going to be the best ever!
In 2004, then the Eightfivethree Pick’em, only four people signed up. I went on to an easy victory. Celebration was cut short. I knew I had to work day and night to make the 2005 Pick’em even better. My tireless efforts resulted in nine Pick’em participants in 2005. I ended up in ninth place (who knew KU would lose their first round game?) and Chloe won it all. Good news, though is that she never claimed her prize, so assuming I can find the pen light and alarm clock/stop watch, they carry over for this year’s prizes.
So after last year’s strong showing, I have renamed the Pick’em to the Classic and am looking forward to an exciting tournament. Head over the Yahoo’s! Tournament Pick’em page and the “Create or join group” button to sign up. You want to then click on the select button under “Join existing group” and then the select under “Join a private group”.

So go signup. You have until early March 17th to make your picks, but can start anytime after the bracket has been announced.

Cam told me that Rhett Miller’s new album was number 2 on Rhapsody (maybe it was just in the alt-country category, can’t remember now), but I decided to check it out on MySpace. I haven’t heard the whole thing yet, but so far it sounds good. Next time I am over at Best Buy I might just have to pick it up. Looks like some new stuff, some old (97’s) stuff and some stuff that looks like Old 97’s stuff (My Valentine). On a side note, they sure make you work (or wait as the case is) to get to Question.

MySpace is going pretty well for me. I already have 8 friends. Next friend I get is going to require me deciding who my top 8 friends are. As my brother in law would say, “Awkward”.
I am sure if you look at my friends you would say to drop Tom, and it’s true, Tom is not my friend, but he was there for me when no one else was.

If you didn’t see last week’s SNL Digital Short, here’s your opportunity. SNL lawyers, again, went after YouTube to pull the video from the site. By the time I went looking for it on Sunday it was gone. I talked with my friends over at Whoomp and they decided not to put the video up because it was a little bit over the line (so if they think it is over the line, that’s all the disclaimer I need). SNL bleeped everything out, but it still leaves little to the imagination.
My favorite part of the short is Samburg dancing in the viking outfit. Rachel thinks Natalie and Andy should date because “they look cute together.”
