The Chronic of Narnia

In the last week, The Chronic of Narnia has gotten so popular that NBC started giving it away for free. Of course, you could always get it for free from my friends at Whoomp.

Way Off

I was a little off in my initial take on Ryan Adams’ 29. I am sitting here on the plane (no wifi, but hoping for some in Denver) listening to the CD and it is great.

Speaking of the flight, it was delayed by about an hour, which actually turned out to be a good thing. It was originally supposed to leave at 6:00 am and we didn’t make it through the security checkpoint until exactly 6:00. We were supposed to have a three hour layover in Denver… which I guess is now cut down to two. More later.

Couldn’t find an internet connection in the airports… posting from my parents’ home.

Going to KC

Rachel and I leave for KC tomorrow morning, flying out of Eugene at 6:00 am. I wasn’t able to upload via my phone to Flickr for a while, but I can now, so be on the lookout for lots of pictures.

Jack Johnson Song Question

Rachel and I were in a Pier 1 a few weeks ago and I heard a Jack Johnson Christmas song. I asked one of the workers if they song the song or knew anything about it and she didn’t. So… does anyone have the song or know where I can get it. I can’t remember which song it was, but I couldn’t find it on iTunes.

Dodger and Royal Blue

I have decided, since moving to Eugene, that I was going to follow the LA Dodgers and the KC Royals. You might think I came to this conclusion because these teams happen to be the last NL and AL cities I lived in and you’d be right (I would have also accepted “they are the only teams with their two word city initials in white on a blue cap” for creativity). Anyways, both teams have enjoyed a rather productive week, with the Royals signing four players last week and the Dodgers just signed Nomar.

Top 9 Ryan Adams Songs

I mentioned last night something about being able to pick nine songs I liked better than the ones on the new album, 29 (after my first listen). I thought I would give it a try. Here they are, my nine favorite Ryan Adams songs in no certain order:

  • My Winding Wheel
  • Oh My Sweet Carolina (see for yourself)
  • In My Time Of Need
  • Answering Bell
  • Wonderwall
  • So Alive
  • Hallelujah
  • Cry On Demand
  • Dear Chicago
  • Hardest Part
  • Beautiful Sorta
  • Let It Ride
  • Midway Park
  • Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight
  • 16 Days
  • Inn Town
  • Dancing With The Women At The Bar
  • Choked Up

And there it is, my 18 most favorite Ryan Adams songs (the last 6 are Whiskeytown songs). Dwindling his entire catalog down to so few songs was quite difficult!

Typo to Wordpress Migration

I had been underwhelmed with Typo, so I switched back to Wordpress today. I searched google for a script to do so, but found very few references to anyone doing so. This meant I had to write my own script to migrate back to Wordpress.

If anyone else wants to make the same switch as me, check out my script to make the move. Just save the file to your server, remove the .txt and run it from the command line. Be sure to update the values mentioned in the file.

If you have any trouble with it or want to make changes, please contact me.

Note that rather than worry about my offset from GMT, I just made the post time be GMT. So that means that my posts were actually written a few hours earlier than the system thinks, but since I have spent time in multiple timezones, I am just not going to worry about it. If you do want to worry about it, it is a simple fix.

Ryan Adams Update

After finding out that Jeff Tweedy was coming to town, I forgot to check Ryan Adams’ site to see if he was coming any time soon. So tonight I remembered to check and there isn’t any tour info, but he does have a new site, complete with a full listen of the new album, 29.

I am most excited about this new album because it is a solo album (sans The Cardinals) and he is working with Ethan Johns again. Ethan produced the final Whiskeytown album, Pneumonia and two earlier solo albums, Heartbreaker and Gold. Ethan, who has also worked with the Counting Crows (new album starting to get talked about), is important to the album because he will bring Ryan back to his country roots. Don’t get me wrong, as much as I enjoy Rock ‘n Roll and the Love is Hell 1 & 2 albums, I could listen to Ryan’s alt-country albums all day long.

After giving 29 an initial listen, I think it is going to be a pretty solid body of work for Ryan. I could probably pick nine songs from his catalog that I like better than these (after one listen, remember), but this is going to be a great album to just have on, it has a lot more vocals and less electric guitar.

Anyways, enough of me writing. 29 comes out Tuesday and have already told Rachel that I can’t wait until Christmas for it. As my sister says, ‘It must be mine!’
