Pleasure Boat Captains for Truth: “Pleasure Boat Captains for Truth has been formed to counter the deliberate misrepresentation of George W. Bush’s drinking record. We seek to portray him as he was, and still is: a ‘lightweight.’”

bbedit 8

There is a new version of BBEdit available, but I don’t think I will be upgrading anytime soon. The only new feature that I would find helpful (I think) is the new spell checking option. Other than that, I can’t find anything that I would use.

Juke

Juke: “A roadside or rural establishment offering liquor, dancing, and often gambling and prostitution.”

I went to Winsteads last night with Rachel and got to thinking about the jukebox. Obviously it would be a “box” that deals with a “juke”, but I didn’t know what juke meant. Now I do.

Winsteads is no juke joint, it is so fun. Its like a diner straight out of Grease, which happens to be my only knowledge of the 50’s. You can order exactly what you want at Winsteads, you don’t have to mess with any combos. You order everything that you want – even the lettuce and tomatoe cost extra – perfect.

I happen to greatly enjoy the Double Winstead. I get it with cheese ($0.25 extra) and bacon ($0.75 extra) and it is amazing. According to a local Hardees commercial, Winsteads has the second best burger in town. The commercial says that the Westport Flea Market has the best burger. I am going to have to check it out. If it really is better than the Double Winstead, I might find myself stopping in the WFM a little too much.

No fame this time

KC Star: “Brush Creek on the Country Club Plaza had whitecaps as the floodwaters flowed and fascinated onlookers.”

I guess our story about last night wasn’t as interesting as some lady who was at Barnes and Noble.

More on the Rain

I went out after the rain stopped coming down to look at Brush Creek with Rachel. It was really dark, but the water was rushing through the creek. Not only did we see this awesome creek at full capacity rushing under bridges and over falls (reminded me of Niagra Falls), but we all were interviewed by Matt Campbell of The Kansas City Star.

Matt asked us all about what we saw. He asked if saw anyone hurt or any dead bodies floating in the creek. We saw neither. He also asked us other tough questions like how long we lived here or if the creek had been higher than it was at the time of the interview. To make an amazing story short, look for us tomorrow in the Star for the complete story.

Gmail

I have one invitation left for a Gmail account and will give it to anyone interested. Gmail is a pretty exclusive club, of which Rachel and I already belong. The first person to ask for it gets it. Make sure to include your email address so I know where to send the invitation. Feel free to write it in some cryptic manner like travisj+randomjunk[at]gmail[dot]cmo or something so a spambot won’t pick it out and send you junk mail.

The Rain

It is raining like crazy down on The Plaza tonight. It is really cool. When the rain really started to come down, I decided to move our cars into the parking garage, just in case the hail starting pouring from the sky. I got drenched running out to my truck and it took about 15 minutes waiting in the garage to finally find a spot. I had to park all the way up on the fifth floor. Then I ran down and got Rachel’s car and headed back into the parking garage, also parking it on the fifth floor.

Water is running through the street like its a river. Down on 48th street the water was nearly 1/4 of the way up the tires of the parked cars. Bryan Busby says we got nearly 1.5 inches in less than 45 minutes and The Plaza is the one place in Kansas City you don’t want to be right now. I guess he think all the water is going to run toward Midtown.

Anyways, it is lightning pretty good right now, but we’re staying dry inside.

Surprising

NPR: “Vice President Dick Cheney surprised an Iowa audience by saying he disagreed with President Bush’s position on gay marriage.”

Maybe this could be the first step in the right direction. Too bad for Missouri, we have already put a constitutional ban on gay marriage. So I guess even if the president let states choose for themselves, Missouri’s mind is made up.
