Well, I am still in the process of trying to get new Missouri plates for our cars. I think the employees of both the DMV and the county courthouse enjoy not telling you everything so you have to come back and see their bright and smiling faces.
Today at the courthouse I found out I didn’t have the proper documentation to prove I lived in Kansas on January 1. It’s my own fault, but I am pretty sure the lady told me on Tuesday that all I was missing was my 2003 proof of title. It could have been that she told me I was missing something or she thought she told me, but really she told the lady sitting next to her how mean their boss was. I can’t remember…
Armed with enough documentation (I thought) to get new plates (and only go back to the courthouse to avoid paying 2004 taxes on the cars at a later date) I headed to the DMV. Well, my own fault, I left the apartment (a whole different story) without my proof of insurance. I had it last time, just forgot it this second trip. Not a big deal since I was never told that our WRX would need an inspection. Actually, I was told our WRX would not need an inspection. The lady was very nice at the DMV (I went really early) and as I chatted with her a little more I learned of a few more things I did not have that would be required on my third trip. Hopefully this extra niceness on my part will prevent a fourth trip.
One piece of advice to all Missouri car owners: Missouri offers the possiblity of licensing the car for two years, but only based on the model year of the car. For example, our 2004 vehicle could could be licensed for 2 years, while our 1997 truck could be licensed for only 1 year, its two year option is coming up next year. So, eventhough it is nice for two years, I will have to go to the MO DMV every year… So my advice is purchase cars that are either both odd model year or even model year, but not a mix of both.
